This month presentation is on Landscapes.

Landscape photography is all about capturing the character and atmosphere of the natural world. Whether it’s sweeping vistas, rolling hills, or intimate woodland scenes, the aim is to convey a sense of place and evoke an emotional response in the viewer. Strong compositions often include a clear focal point, thoughtful use of foreground interest, and an awareness of how different elements lead the eye through the scene.

Light plays a huge role in shaping the mood of a landscape image. Early mornings and late afternoons—often called the golden hours—tend to offer soft, warm light and long shadows that add depth and texture. But landscape photography isn’t limited to perfect conditions. Moody clouds, mist, rain, and even harsh midday sun can all create compelling images when used creatively. Being patient and returning to a location at different times of day, or in different seasons, can reveal entirely new photographic opportunities.

Another key aspect is understanding how to work with your environment. Using a tripod can help keep images sharp, especially when shooting in low light or experimenting with long exposures to smooth water or capture cloud movement. Paying attention to weather forecasts, tides, or sunrise/sunset times can also make a huge difference to planning and success. Ultimately, landscape photography rewards those willing to slow down, observe, and connect with the natural world—turning simple moments outdoors into striking visual stories.
