The competition for this month is - Wildlife

The programme for the meeting is:-

This session will give those who went on the outing opportunity to share their results with the rest of the membership. Hopefully we will see how the soft, diffused light often found on the escarpment lends itself beautifully to capturing gritstone textures and subtle colour variations across the heather. I hope the images produced during this event will show a pleasing balance of contrast and detail, particularly in foreground elements such as boulders and dry grasses. As the light strengthens later on, it will become clear which compositions are resilient enough to handle harsher shadows and which may benefit from a different shooting angle or exposure approach.

Competitions

At the June Club meeting, Andy will be leading an informal discussion on entering photography competitions. Drawing on his own experiences and knowledge, he plans to outline the different types of competitions available, from local and club-based events through to national and international opportunities. Andy will touch on key considerations such as choosing appropriate images, understanding entry rules and judging criteria, and how competitions can help photographers assess their work more objectively.

The session will also explore the wider benefits of entering competitions, including gaining constructive feedback, building confidence, and finding inspiration from other photographers’ work. Members will be encouraged to share their own experiences, ask questions, and discuss both the challenges and rewards of putting their images forward for judging. It should be an engaging and practical discussion, offering useful insights for anyone considering taking the step into photographic competitions.
