About the Club

Our membership includes everyone from complete beginners to highly experienced digital photographers, and we warmly welcome new members regardless of their level of ability, interest, or commitment. The subjects we cover span the full spectrum of photographic genres, such as landscapes, wildlife, and macro work to architecture, creative photography, and even the occasional steam train.

We meet at Ravenshead Village Hall at 2:00 pm on the last Wednesday of each month, with the exception of December, when our annual competition is held online. Details of current competition themes, scheduled talks, and special events can be found on our website. In addition to our regular meetings, we organise a variety of outings to interesting and diverse photographic locations. (Please see our Outings and Diary pages for upcoming activities.)

A typical meeting begins with a competition judged by the members. Participants are then invited (if they wish) to give a brief explanation of the story or techniques behind their images.

This is followed by our “Extras” session, where members may submit a small selection (around half a dozen) of recent photographs for constructive critique. This section is informal, independent of the monthly competition theme, and entirely optional. Members are encouraged to share the background or inspiration behind their images.

We also frequently include a talk on an aspect of photography. Sometimes these are linked to the following month’s competition theme; at other times they focus on areas of interest suggested by members. These sessions are particularly valuable for those with limited experience, offering an opportunity to expand knowledge and skills. Increasingly, members themselves deliver these talks, and we hope this trend will continue to grow.

Looking ahead to the 2026 season, we are planning an expanded programme with a greater variety of events and more hands on, practical involvement. Our aim is to further enhance the photographic abilities of all members.

Finally, we reserve the last 15–20 minutes of each meeting for informal socialising and an open members’ forum. This provides a relaxed opportunity to ask questions, share challenges encountered during the month, and benefit from the experience and advice of other members.
